What is CJC-1295?
CJC-1295 is a 29-amino-acid peptide—a synthetic analog of native GHRH with four amino acid substitutions that confer resistance to enzymatic degradation. In its DAC-modified form, it also binds covalently to circulating albumin through a linker molecule, dramatically extending its half-life from minutes (native GHRH) to hours or days in preclinical models. CJC-1295 is not FDA-approved for any indication and is used strictly in research settings.
Mechanism: GHRH pathway and pulsatile GH release
- Pituitary GHRH receptor binding. CJC-1295 binds and activates GHRH receptors on somatotroph cells in the anterior pituitary.
- Endogenous growth hormone secretion. This triggers pulsatile release of the body's own GH, raising serum GH and downstream IGF-1 levels.
- DAC-extended half-life. The albumin-binding moiety prolongs exposure, reducing the frequency of dosing compared to unmodified GHRH.
Preclinical research status
As of August 2026, CJC-1295 remains an investigational compound with no active Phase 2 or Phase 3 clinical trials on ClinicalTrials.gov. Preclinical research has focused on:
- GH and IGF-1 axis signaling in animal models.
- Body composition and lean mass preservation.
